Dedicated to the preservation of ancient Kirat heritage and the promotion of spiritual harmony within the Kingdom of Bhutan.
Faith, Truth, and the Himalayan Spirit
Our Identity
Druk Kirat Chhoetshog (Kirat Religious Association of Bhutan) is a non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental religious organization. Established in accordance with the Religious Organization Act of Bhutan 2007, we serve as the focal agency between the Bhutanese Kirat community and the Royal Government of Bhutan. Our head office is located in the capital city, Thimphu.
We officially celebrate our Foundation Day on May 24th each year.
Vision & Mission
Vision: Inspired by the time-tested philosophy of the Kirat religion, we commit to empowering spiritual fulfillment, religious integrity, and perpetual happiness among the Bhutanese people. We promote peaceful coexistence and reverence for all sentient beings in harmony with the national ethos.
Mission: To promote Kirat culture, spiritual traditions, language, and script within all segments of Bhutanese society. We strive to strengthen peace and harmony with deep respect for the Tsa-Wa-Sum (King, Country, and People) and the Buddhist spiritual heritage of Bhutan.
Our Roots and Core Beliefs
The Kirat people are descendants of the Himalayan tribes who have practiced the ancient tradition of nature worship since time immemorial. Our faith is anchored in three pillars:
- Truth: Preserving the old-age traditions and customs of our ancestors.
- Non-Violence: Abstaining from any kind of violence against living beings.
- Unity: Striving for world peace and mutual aid in times of need.
We worship Tagera Ningwa Bhumang, the All-pervasive Supreme Goddess, and honor the five elements of nature—Earth, Sky, Fire, Water, and Air.
Governance & Leadership
The association is structured to ensure transparency, cultural integrity, and national service:
- The Board: DKC is governed by an 11-member Board, comprising a Chairperson (a senior Priest), Vice-Chairperson, Secretary General, Treasurer, and seven members.
- Advisory Council (Tumyanghang): A council of five senior citizens, expert in Kirat culture and the Samjik Mundhum, provides spiritual guidance and oversight to the Board.
- The Mangsewasaba: We support and register our spiritual guides, including the Sangdangenwarumsaba/ma (Senior Priests), Sewasaba/ma, and traditional shamanic practitioners like the Phedangba, Samba, Yeba, and Mangpa
